Automata

A bit of advanced notice   I am doing an artists talk on 21st of November at Northlight Art Studios

A short film about my creative practice and inspirations by Elena Bazu and directed by local film maker Sarah Mason , made in April in my studio.  Inspiring to work with these two talented creative people . The featured old lady who swallowed a fly has not returned to the high shelf, She deserves a restoration which is now underway.

Automata Fest     9th-11th May  2025

A festival in Hastings over three days organised  by Cabaret Mechanical Theatre and Automata Magazine. A fantastic three days of automata fun. Delighted to be part of this event to present about my creative practice. I was star struck to be along side  my automata favourites.

The whole weekend was very inspiring meeting so many interesting people , plus being drawn by Betty the Gorilla and treating myself to a copy of Michael Starts fantastic new book

Secrets of Automata.

Automata Exhibitions

While in Hastings I popped into see   ‘Automata Maker ‘  at Hastings Museum.

Part of a trail of six automata from the CMT collection across the ground floor of the museum. The exhibits also include automaton by Keith Newstead, Paul Spooner,  Wanda Sowry  & Michael Howard.  On till the 8th of June.

Cabaret Mechanical Marvels  Time and Tide Museum Great Yarmouth

5th  April -14th  September 2025

Equinox  at Northlight Art Studios in March. This was a  group exhibition by studio members  responding to the word Equinox in a variety of media. I designed and  made two Equinox Clocks, these mark Equinox time by rotating to show a sun or moon. The one featured is now in my shop.

News from Lisa Slater automata

Spring at last. On a beautiful day I have  been doing owl research at SMJ Falconry.

A morning close up with the owls and a chance to fly them. This is Heidi and Twilight.

I often make owls to add to my automata so this Owl Experience was very inspiring  and a treat.

I will certainly be better at replicating  markings.
